Today's Project
Oh, how I love to use ink!!! The range of colors that we have in the Stampin' Up! color families just makes my heart happy. There are so many fun techniques to use with inks... I have used several fun ink techniques in the past like Faux Oxide, Faux Alcohol Coloring, and Faux Alcohol Backgrounds (feel free to click on the technique names to see some inspiration showing these techniques in previous blog posts) but my all time favorite way to apply color is with Water Painters and ink (I use this technique all the time!!!). The lids of the Classic Stampin' Ink Pads make the perfect artist palettes for watercoloring. You can either squeeze the Ink Pad for the ink to transfer to the lid or you can you use a drop of ink from the Ink Refills... it's totally your artistic preference.
Project Details
Inspiration is everywhere! The colors for the butterfly come from the amazing Dead Leaf Butterfly aka Orange Oakleaf Butterfly found in Tropical Asia. This amazing butterfly looks like a dried oak leaf when its wings are closed... and when they are down... it's like wow! It is an amazing display of blue, orange and black!
The leaf image was watercolored with Garden Green ink (I lovingly refer to this as Watercolor Stamping) and stamped onto the Shimmery White die cut panel. The butterfly was inked with Jet Black Stazon ink and watercolored with Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point ink. Once dry, the Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker was used to fill in the top areas of the wings to resemble the inspiration from the Dead Leaf Butterfly's wings. The Sahara Sand layer was embossed with the Bark 3D Embossing Folder as was a butterfly die cut. The bark detailing of the butterfly represents the veins of the underside of the Dead Leaf Butterfly.
The intricate die was watercolored with Garden Green ink prior to placing on a strip of Shimmery White cardstock and die cutting. The subtle touch of color adds softness to the die cut. Linen Thread was threaded through the die cut, wrapped around the layers and tied off with a bow.
A drop of unshaken Daffodil Delight was used on the ink pad lid thus providing a darker shade of Daffodil Delight vs squeezing the lid.
When creating your cards, you should also pay attention to the inside and the envelope. You want the card to be complete. This was accomplished by using the same watercoloring techniques for the inside layers and the envelope front and flap.
