Hello stampers! I'm so glad that you're here and hope you are having a wonderful day! Today I am hopping with some of my talented stamping friends from around the world who love creating with Stampin' Up!® products as much as I do! We love hopping on the second weekends of the month - Saturday or Sunday depending on where you are in the world - and love sharing lots of inspiration with you. There are several of us hopping today - you will find the list to follow along towards the bottom of my blog post - so sit back and relax with your favorite cuppa as you peruse the hop.
This month we are sharing projects based on our Sounds of the Season theme! I am sure that you will find lots of different interpretations and inspiration from this fun sketch.
Today's Project
The other night I was at my craft desk preparing a card to share with you today. It was one of those cold winter nights where I was listening to Christmas songs on YouTube through my iPhone. It is actually my favorite season of the year as we the celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The song that I selected has inspired the technique that I used for today's project. This song is very dear to my heart as it was one of the songs that we sang at a Christmas concert at my former church in Georgia twenty three years ago. I was blessed to find a video of the original songwriter singing it... I hope that you enjoy this version of Mary, Did You Know written and performed by David Lowry.

A Child is Born Christmas Cards featuring the Spotlight Technique
Project Details
The A Child is Born image was stamped with VersaMark ink onto Basic White cardstock and heat embossed with Metallic Copper WOW! Embossing Powder.
The images were colored with Stampin' Blends Markers before the spotlight technique began.
The colors were kept as close to natural tones as I envisioned them to wear. SU100 was used for Joseph's hair while Mary's was colored with SU200. Joseph's clothing was highlighted with Bronze and blended with Light Crumb Cake. His walking stick was colored with Dark Pecan Pie and blended with Light Crumb Cake. Jesus' swaddling clothes were colored with Light and Dark Crumb Cake. Mary's clothing was colored and shaded with Light Cloud Cover.
The stars were stamped from different vantage points for each card to allow different angles of the spotlight technique.

Spotlight Technique created with the retired Double Oval Punch Christmas Star centered over the Holy Family
For the centered spotlight, an oval was punched at the sticky end of a post-it note. Pieces of Post-it Tape were angled on from the top to the oval to mask the area to remain highlighted. An acrylic block was inked with Secret Sea ink with a second block being used to dab access ink before blending lightly around the masks. The inking processing took awhile to obtain the shading I wished. Thankful that YouTube was playing several other versions of "Mary, Did You Know?" for me as I enjoyed this process!

Spotlight Technique created with the Everyday Arches Dies Christmas Star rays spanning over the Holy Family
For the wider angled spotlight, pieces of Post-it Tape were used to mask off the angles from the star which was masked from a fussy-cut post-it star. Once the angles were blended, a diecut using the largest of the Everyday Arches Dies was postitioned to create the bottom of the spotlight. Once complete and the masks were removed, the spotlight and stars were highlighted with my Wink of Stella.
Both cards featured heat embossing for their second layers... one used the new Lasting Linen stamp set and the other used the largest of the Branching Out Dies to heat emboss the edges if you do not have Copper Foil.
Both cards also used the same A Child is Born sentiment... one was fussycut while the other was diecut the Stylish Shapes narrow banner.
The insides of each card were stamped, heat embossed and layered to compliment the card fronts. The retired Mistletoe Magic sentiments were stamped with Secret Sea ink. The Basic White Medium Envelopes fronts and flaps were stamped to complete the card ensembles.
